New Canada 150 research chairs will attract global research stars
OTTAWA – Canada’s universities welcome today’s launch of the Canada 150 Research Chairs program, which will help attract top international researchers across all disciplines to university communities from coast to coast.
Announced in Budget 2017, the program will award up to 35 chairs at Canadian universities in commemoration of Canada’s sesquicentennial.
“This is Canada’s moment – a time to strengthen research and innovation that impacts people’s lives – and the Canada 150 Chairs program is an effective way to do just that,” says Paul Davidson, president of Universities Canada. “It’s an important step toward making Canada the destination of choice for top talent around the world.”
Applications will close September 15, 2017, and the new chair holders will be announced by the end of the year.
