Countries are interconnected like never before. People, talent, and ideas are mobile like never before. And our big challenges don’t know political boundaries. Ocean health, climate, human health, migration, intercultural understandings and misunderstandings – these are the world’s big challenges, and it’s our opportunity as universities to respond to them.

Canada’s universities have the opportunity to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, but they cannot do it alone. Jamie Cassels, president of the University of Victoria, highlights the importance of international research collaboration in overcoming these challenges, pointing out that, “Countries are interconnected like never before […] and our big challenges don’t know political boundaries.”
